System of a Down have confirmed a headline show at the 65,000-capacity Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California on 5 June 2027 as their only North American date of that year, with SPIN reporting that Pierce the Veil will provide support. The announcement makes it the largest headlining show the band will have staged in their home state, surpassing a two-night run at the 24,000-capacity BMO Stadium in Los Angeles in 2022.
Tickets go on sale via an artist presale beginning 23 October at 10 a.m. PT, according to Blabbermouth.
A band in good shape
The Rose Bowl date arrives off the back of a European stadium run this summer, during which System of a Down marked the 25th anniversary of Toxicity. That tour saw the band fill large venues across the continent, and the momentum seems to extend well beyond the stage. Guitarist Daron Malakian recently told SPIN that the personal bonds within the group are in better health than they have been for decades.
‘The friendships in the band are really strong right now,’ Malakian said. ‘We get together, we have dinner. [Bassist] Shavo [Odajian] and I went to a hockey game together last week. Serj and I are in touch on the telephone every other week. That hasn’t happened in 20 years. We go to dinner together with the wives. Forget about the band. The friendship is back, and the friendship being back is making us enjoy the band.’
The band also hosted an exhibition in Los Angeles called Beyond the Streets, featuring artefacts and memorabilia from the Toxicity era.
South America, Australia and New Zealand shows confirmed
The Pasadena gig follows five previously announced stadium dates across South America, Australia and New Zealand, organised in conjunction with Brazilian promoter 30e. Faith No More, who share the same promoter arrangement with 30e, are set to open each of those shows.
Vocalist Serj Tankian has also been active outside the band’s own touring schedule, recently taking to the stage at the Power to the People festival outside Washington, D.C., alongside Tom Morello, handling lead vocals on a performance of Audioslave’s ‘Like a Stone’.
The full run of confirmed dates is as follows: 15 January, Maracanã Stadium, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; 22 January, Accor Stadium, Sydney Olympic Park, Australia; 27 January, Marvel Stadium, Melbourne, Australia; 1 February, Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane, Australia; 7 February, Hnry Stadium, Wellington, New Zealand; 5 June, Rose Bowl, Pasadena, California.
