Noah Kahan’s ‘Draw You Out’ arrives as the lead single from The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping (The Album), out now via MCA, and it sets a particular tone from the first listen: earnest, searching, and built for a story about a world that devours its young. According to Universal Music Canada, Kahan is a 2x GRAMMY-nominated, multi-platinum artist, and on this evidence he has found a project that suits both his instincts and his ambitions.
The track reunites Kahan with Aaron Dessner, who co-wrote and co-produced it across sessions at Long Pond Studio in New York, Gold Pacific Studios, and East Iris Studios in Nashville. That Kahan-Dessner axis is already well established: Dessner co-produced Kahan’s fourth studio album, The Great Divide, alongside Gabe Simon. Released via Mercury Records, The Great Divide debuted at No. 1 in the United States and held that position for three consecutive weeks before receiving RIAA Platinum certification. ‘Draw You Out’, then, is less a sidestep than an extension of a working relationship that has already proven its worth.
Noah Kahan Draw You Out: Written for the Characters, Not the Franchise
Kahan spoke to Billboard about the scale of the brief. ‘Music is such a massive part of the Hunger Games in a lot of ways,’ he said. ‘To be able to speak to what the director sees in these characters, what Suzanne Collins wrote these characters for, and to try to match that is a big task, but a really fun challenge. I just can’t believe that I get to be a part of it.’ That sense of fidelity to character rather than spectacle feels right for a franchise whose best music has always worked inward, not outward.
The film itself, directed by Francis Lawrence and based on Suzanne Collins’ novel, centres on 16-year-old Haymitch Abernathy, played by Joseph Zada, during the 50th Annual Hunger Games, also known as the Second Quarter Quell. Set 24 years before the events of the original Hunger Games, the film stars Mckenna Grace, Ralph Fiennes, Jesse Plemons, Glenn Close, Kieran Culkin, Elle Fanning, Maya Hawke, Whitney Peak and Kelvin Harrison Jr. Lionsgate releases the film in cinemas on 20 November 2026, one week after the album drops on 13 November.
Dave Cobb and 29 Artists Across Genres Shape the Full Record
The broader album is executive produced by Dave Cobb, whose previous credits include work with Chris Stapleton and Sturgill Simpson, according to Universal Music Canada. That background in country music’s more unguarded, literary strain suggests the record may carry more weight than a typical franchise tie-in, and the scope backs that up: 29 artists across genres are involved, with further announcements still to come. The project will include previously unreleased music created specifically for the film, meaning this is not a compilation of pre-existing material dressed in new artwork.
Universal Music Canada also confirms that the album’s opening track is titled ‘The Raven I’, a detail that gestures at something mythic and serial in the record’s structure, though what form that takes across the full tracklist remains to be heard.
For Kahan, the timing places ‘Draw You Out’ squarely within The Great Divide era. He is currently on The Great Divide World Tour, which takes in arena dates across the UK, Europe, Australia and New Zealand this autumn. The Hunger Games commission, written specifically for the film, runs alongside that campaign rather than interrupting it, which may say something about where his ambitions are pointed right now.
The album is released on 13 November 2026, ahead of the film’s cinema date one week later.
