A new North American stadium run, running from 8 May through 19 June 2027, has been announced, stretching the M72 World Tour into its fifth consecutive year on the road.

From the Sphere to the Stadiums: What Comes Before the Metallica M72 Tour 2027

Before the stadiums, there is Las Vegas. Metallica will make its Sphere debut with a residency titled Life Burns Faster, launching 1 October and running through 13 March 2027. It is a significant pivot in format for a band whose M72 identity has been built around the kinetic spectacle of in-the-round stadium production, and the Sphere represents a different kind of immersive proposition entirely. The 2027 tour dates follow directly in its wake, with the first show at BC Place in Vancouver arriving less than two months after the residency concludes.

The 2027 leg visits a dozen cities the band has not played on this particular run, giving the extension genuine geographic purpose rather than the feel of a victory lap through familiar markets. The itinerary takes in San Diego, El Paso, San Antonio, Fayetteville, Kansas City, Raleigh, Indianapolis, Buffalo, Madison, Cleveland and Salt Lake City, where the run concludes at Rice-Eccles Stadium on 19 June. The Numbers Behind One of the Biggest Tours of This Era

The M72 World Tour launched in April 2023 and has, to date, logged 99 shows across 26 countries, with nearly five million members of what Metallica call their “Metallica family” attending. Those are figures that place M72 among the more substantial live undertakings in recent memory, and the 2027 extension will push the total considerably further by the time the Salt Lake City finale arrives. The band has been off the road since concerts at London Stadium on 3 and 5 July.

The tour’s production has been central to its identity throughout. The massive in-the-round stage, which places the audience on all sides, has become the defining visual of the run, collapsing the conventional distance between band and crowd in a way that sits slightly at odds with the sheer scale of the venues.
