Striking Chords is a development of Sound It Out’s highly successful Musical Connections programme for isolated individuals across Birmingham, which is currently in its 13th year and has been providing a regular ongoing link to its members since its inception in 1995.
The Striking Chords project is a partnership project with two inpatient units of Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health Foundation Trust: the Reaside Clinic, a medium secure inpatient unit for adult males; and Ardenleigh, a Forensic Child and Adolescent Mental Health unit for young people aged 12-18 years.
At the Reaside Clinic the project specifically benefits individuals unable to take community leave and thus individuals unable to access the Musical Connections project. Our involvement with Ardenleigh is a new partnership which is developing very well and we are delighted with the enthusiasm shown for the project by both young people and staff to date.
Striking Chords project activity began in November 2008 and artists are currently delivering one-one and group creative music making sessions, utilising music as a positive tool as a part of patient rehabilitation
